Sushi is Good!

I love when it’s sunny

But it’s very snowy right now ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I hope it melts soon so we won’tย  slip ‘n’ slide on the streets!

I got a haircut on the 2nd of this month. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s a lot of hair gone! (12 inches + -ish?) I really wanted to donate it, so (without giving second thoughts – like usual. Ha ha) before I left for my dorm, I went to Great Clips and got it cut. ๐Ÿ™‚ (I don’t really care where I go to get a haircut because I go maybe around every two or so years.) I hope they can make a nice wig out of it, becauseย I was growing it out for a loooooooooong time! ๐Ÿ™‚

Didn’t get this photo in time, but

A traditional Southern soup my BF’s mom made. For New Years ๐Ÿ™‚ It tasted bitter and strong; never tasted something like this before. ๐Ÿ™‚

And my dinner on Sunday. Because I come back from home to my dorm, I usually feel like not going to the dining hall and just enjoy eating in my room watching tv. ๐Ÿ™‚

The amount of fries they gave me was scary – it took me two days to finish it! Ha ha! ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve made a whole container of this as well.

Nut-free Easy Chocolate Spread. Never hurts to have it!ย You can roll these into balls or put them in molds and freeze it to make a little snack, too! I tried it, and it’s pretty tasty! ๐Ÿ˜€ Ahh, the chocolate!

When I came home, I got a letter from three sisters. I emailed them asking if their chocolate oatmeal was vegan (and it’s not). They emailed me back saying no, but I got this in the mail!

Coupons! They actually gave me an extra 75 cents off coupon. Whoops ๐Ÿ™‚ But that’s okay. I’ll be using it. ๐Ÿ™‚

So about the title. For my grandpa’s birthday, we had a sushi party!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Who doesn’t enjoy that? ๐Ÿ˜‰

From the left: Brown rice with rice vinegar, vegan tuna, edamame, nori, salmon, romaine hearts, cheese cake (a little hidden behind the romaine hearts, sea bream,ย  brown rice with vinegar, and nori. (<- on both sides of the table because it’s a pain to reach over to the other side) ๐Ÿ™‚

Close-up of my side:

Vegan tuna:

It’s vegan tuna + vegan mayo to be more specific ๐Ÿ˜€ This one tasted better than the one you can get at Whole Foods. (I get headaches when I have theirs – lolย – too much chemicals, perhaps)

I bought this cheese to go with the sushi.

Who thought sushi with cheese was good?! I liked it!! ๐Ÿ˜€ It gave it a mild taste!

And pickled plum paste + sushi = Heaven!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Yeay for sushi mats because then it can be made perfect! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was too busy eating to shoot photos everytime. Ha ha ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy Birthday Grandpa!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

New Year’s Food ‘n’ Buys ‘n’ Eats!

Food post! Just too much (non-New Years related) picturesย to putย on the previous post. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Recent buys:

NewYears 002

Ran out of Whole Wheat Flours because I was making pancakes like crazy. ๐Ÿ™‚ And though I decided to cut out Kombucha, I wanted something fizzy. Thought it was better than having a soda. ๐Ÿ™‚ (but I had some of my brother’s anyways)

Honest Tea’s Apple Jasmine Kombucha: This had a fair taste of apples (and the smell too). It tasted like it was watered down A LOT. (compared to Synergy or Vibranz kombucha) But if you want a light “fizz”, it’s okay. ๐Ÿ™‚

NewYears 003

And I wanted to make Averie’s Chex Mix, so I boughtย this Kashi’sย Islandย Vanillaย a while ago. As a cereal, it’s not sweet. Too hard, and it gets softย too easy. I like “crunchy“, but this wasn’t “crunchy” at all. I like my Hemp Granola Cereal waaaaaaaaay better. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This next one was buy one get one free special (and it was only $2.59 each), so I bought it. Three Sisters Instant Oatmeal.

NewYears 008

The package that the oatmeal was in is very convenient and eco-friendly. Open the package, and fill it up to the line with water; no cups needed! Very convenient.

NewYears 010

But the oatmeal part of this: EW. Oatmeal is the most bland, disgusting food I’ve ever had. It’s mushy and tasteless; it’s lacking “crunchiness” so much! Yes that’s how oatmeal is supposed to be, but I hate it. XP I will eat it up (or maybe use it in a recipe?) though; don’t like wasting food. ๐Ÿ™‚

NewYears 015

Tried adding it in Whole Soy & Co’s Vanillaย yogurt, which made it a little flavorful.

Also bought this at Whole Foods, and these are yummers!!

NewYears 022

A little bit on the dry side, but not going to complain. It has less than 10 ingredients, and it’s like Chips Ahoy! but vegan!!! I’ve wanted cookies like that ever since going vegan (in a package with about 20-25 cookies each), and it costs technically the same! ($3.69) I’m willing to buy it again, but that’s if I’m craving cookies on the dry side. (I like TJ’s cookies better; super-moist!!)

This is always fun to eat:

NewYears 020

Odwalla‘s Choco-Walla Bar!! I like their Superfruit juice, too! We’re good friends. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I bought a different Kombuchaย for New Year’s Eve.ย

NewYears 023

Kombucha Botanica Hibiscus. This one tasted good! (looks like beer lol) Not too watered down like the above one, very fizzy, and I was able to taste the hibiscus! If you’re going for a stronger, flowery one, then this one’s better. ๐Ÿ™‚

Recipe! Eggless Egg Salad!!

NewYears 019

From peta2‘s 2-week vegan recipes. The recipe makes it into a sandwich. I didn’t. ๐Ÿ™‚

Eggless Egg Salad:

  • 1 package of extra firm tofu (drained) – it better be firm because if it’s soft, it does NOT seem like eggs!!!
  • 1/2 cup of vegan mayo
  • 1 1/2 tbsp of dejon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric (for yellow color)
  • 2 – 3 stalks of green onion (chopped – optional) <- I didn’t add any
  • 1/4 cup relish
  • salt and pepper to taste

  1. Mash tofu.
  2. Add in all other ingredients.
  3. Eat!

You can put it into bread of course! Then it will yield 4 servings.

I doubled the recipe because I added an extra package of SOFT tofu (that’s all I had), then it tasted plain. (I still have some left) The sourness of the relish makes it taste really good, and I made this into a sandwich as well, and it tasted just like real egg salad sandwich!! If you like egg salad, it’s worth a shot to give it a try! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย I think this will be a staple at my house!

They also have a Tuna recipe, and I’m looking forward to making this too! (but first, I need to use up my relish…Relish tastes really good!) Maybe I’ll have an egg salad sandwich for lunch everyday in college! (sandwich is convenient, I don’t have to pay a high price for my lunch at the dining hall, and I won’t have to go back up to my room every time for lunch!) Hm, maybe! ๐Ÿ˜€

Lesson learned: buy relish at TJ’s, because they are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than Whole Foods ($4.99 vs $1.99; both organic)!!! Both preservative free. ๐Ÿ™‚

Though I had a big list that I wanted to finish today, the math homework was more teeeeedious than I thought, so I didn’t get through them all. BUT, I finished the one thing that I really wanted to finish, so I’m proud of that! ๐Ÿ˜€

12.28.2010 007

One-page paper for my Japanese School! The ones that we all have to write every year near the end of the school year (so they can book it and give copies to everyone). It was tough and scary to write (nice, final paper, super-fancy pen, etc.)ย when I was little, but not anymore. This is my last one, and I’m just glad that I’m done with it! ๐Ÿ˜€

Teedious math homework:

12.28.2010 008

12.28.2010 001

At least when I looked through the text book, I started to remember how to do it ๐Ÿ™‚ I was quite proud of me the human mind for it to remember things that you know you’re not gonna use that’s not super-necessary in life. (unless you’re going to become a math teacher like me. Then you might need it) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then this month’s VegNews came to the rescue!

12.28.2010 006

I’ve read through it pretty quickly, so once I’m done with my homework (and before I go to bed), I want to take my time to read it more carefully. ๐Ÿ™‚ It has a lot of information on health this month,ย so I’m super-excited to read it!

Today for lunch, I had two pancakes (out of a box that my mom had to use up)

12.28.2010 004

Pancakes taste better with Agave I tell you! I tried maple syrup, and it just wasn’t sweet enough. ๐Ÿ˜› No more maple syrup in my house! (but of course earth balance is needed ;))

Today, after picking up my little brother from BB, I went to the dentist to pick up some rubber bands for my braces, and while I was driving back, I found a sign that says “Boehm’s Chocolate“.

So vroom I turned and drove! Found it, it was a very cute place (with very cute Scottish-like uniform), but the smell of MILK chocolate bothered me A LOT. Wow, I’m REALLY sensitive to things like this now! It’s quite impressive! (didn’t have my camera!)

I bought a big (about 2.5 inches in diameter) coin chocolate and a racecar chocolate for my bro for a whopping $1.50. (dang, that’s cheap for a special place!)

Then we drove back, (oh yeah, he bought a whole pack of Whole Food’s 365 Key lime soda. $2.39; $2.62 after tax. It was funny how my bf didn’t hear me when I was sort of yelling in the store. Ha ha ๐Ÿ˜€ Then he came back with a sample of earth balance’s chocolate soy milk. Hm, I wonder if that’s good?)

And we went to Daniel Smith’s Art Supplies to go buy some copics!

Super-expensive pens!! $5.67 EACH!! (but that’s actually cheaper than other art stores, who sells them for $6.49. Gaah! 8O) With just two of these pens,ย Michael and I could go buy a meal from Wayward Cafe!! Oh well. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m an artist and I can’t (and won’t) change that.

From bottom up: Yellow, Crimson (“red“), Black, Leather, and Dandelion.

Michael’s parents gave me a $30 gift cardย for here as a Christmas present, so I used that. (thank you so much!!). But the machine didn’t recognize it, and the cashier lady had to get help, so we ended up waiting for about 5-10 minutes. (but the cashier guy who re-did it at a different machineย gave me a student discount! Yeay! $31.47 to $28. 51!) ๐Ÿ˜€ Sometimes, waiting is good.

I’m going toย change my sleeping schedule. Sleeping at 12 is NOT going to work for me (because I want to get up at least at 6 when school starts). That means I have to go to bed around 10:30, and get up at 6. TV is a good motivation for me to get up in the morning during school, so I will use that again! ๐Ÿ˜€

Tomorrow’s To-Do List:

  • Work on math homework (do history the day after, so it won’t be a work-overload)
  • Read VegNews
  • Call J

My mom’s been doing a REALLY good job cleaning the house for the last couple of days. I’m really proud of her, and really thankful for her!! Thank you mom, good job, and you are an amazing house-cleaning mom! (of course you’re just the perfect mom for me! ;))

I added another present that I received from Michael on the gift post!

Japan Trip Pics #3 – Food, Food, and More Food!!

Hi everyone! How are you doing today? ๐Ÿ˜‰

First of all, I want to say that my boy friend came up with this title, and not me. He likes to be silly sometimes ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you missed my two trip posts, you can check them out hereย and here.

FINALLY, this is the LAST POST ABOUT THIS TRIP. (I have so much more other stuff that I want to post, but I know I should finish this first) So foodie post, here it goes!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

1.) Vegan Airplane food is disgusting.

Ew, what is this fake curry thing… I only ate the left and the right side (not the white rice – yuck!!!)

Breakfast…The puffy cake-like thing on the right tasted like NOTHING. I seriously had NO IDEA what it was.

Breakfast in Japan was vegetable/fruit juice such as this.

Konjac noodles. I love these and they were my lifesavers.

Soba noodles with original soy sauce + vinegar dip. Can taste the soy sauce A LOT, and I thought it was funny ๐Ÿ˜€

I found it in a grocery store. Hershey’s crunch ball. Probably like dibs…yum for people who eat them! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cherry Blossom Sherbert. Mmmmm it tasted pink! ๐Ÿ˜€

Yeay more konjac! (the green sashimi-looking thing) It’s good, in my opinion. With a little mustard-like sauce…Mmm!

A Vanilla bagel I got at the big mall down town. (yes, it’s vegan! Yeaaaaaaaaaay!!!) It was very vanilla-y. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I bought it again a few days after. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was that good (and when you can’t find good vegan food like the US, anything would help)

And remember how there was a drink store called Vegetaria?

They used fresh vegetables and fruits to make their drink right on the spot.

Because my mom and I are such unique people, we got bitter melon + pineapple and dragon fruit juice.

Mom’s choice of bitter melon + pineapple. It was SUPER BITTER. I liked that expression on her face, because I knew it was bitter!!! (and I tried it and it was…weird!)

My dragon fruit drink. It was very unique, sweet, and good. It tasted like a mango-type tropical awesomeness. ๐Ÿ˜€

Food from the US I brought with me. I’m surprised that it actually held me for 21 days. Next time, I taking these in boxes!!!!!!!!!! That’s how much vegan food I need in Japan!!!!!

Kabosu juice. Kabosu is a fruit that’s similar to a lime. Famous fruit in Oita.

More soba noodle. This time warm. ๐Ÿ™‚

Shitake mushrooms. This was when we celebrated our grandmother’s 77th year. (not birthday, but a special day because her age is 77)

Fried tofu. Always a yum. Even in America. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. If you can read this, it’s funny, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It has the kanji for “man” (otoko), right on the surface of the tofu. Pretty funny, huh? ๐Ÿ˜‰ And it’s called Otokomae-tofu. (aka “Handsome tofu”) The name gives me a good laugh, too. XD

Brown Sugar popcorn. This was good, I have to tell you. Even my grandma liked it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (and it’s vegan! Ha!)

The last “snack” I ate. Apple Sherbert from Baskin Robins. (at The Mall) This was very yum, and it tasted like apples! (Probably chemical apples, but what the heck. I’m regained my health back when I got back home, so it’s all okay) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Food going back. They did a little better, but the steamed veggies didn’t really taste like anything.

Again, breakfast; weird spongy-cake thing. I didn’t even eat this because I knew how nasty it was from the going-to Japan flight. Ew. Absolutely ew.

But but, the funniest food bought during this whole trip is this!

Boobie chocolate!!!!!!!! Our grandma bought it for my girl cousin (age 6) because…it was cute! (I don’t know!) On the front, it actually said how to eat it. “Lick it, suck it, etc. etc.”. It was so funny, I couldn’t stop laughing inside my head!!!! What do you think of this “Boobie Chocolate”? (ooh, and don’t worry. There was also “Penis chocolate”, too. But boobies are totally better than penis, right? Ha ha!!) ๐Ÿ˜€

I have sooooooooooooooooooo many more pictures, but if I were to finish this post in one day, this is all I can put up. And if I tried to put all the pics, I’d never finish these posts about the trip!!!

And guess what? I totally missed my One-Year Blogaversary!!!! (9/1/2009 was when I started) Oh well ๐Ÿ™‚

And two, before I left for Japan, Michael and I went to an all-vegan cafe, so I’m going to have that post coming up next!

To give you a clue what we had, I’ll leave you with this picture.

And now, you get to wonder what it is until my next post! Muhahahahahahaha!! >:D

Well everyone, this is the end of my Japan Trip Recap, and like always, thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks for coming!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gluten Free Bar and Kombucha Review and Veg*n Clothings!

Hi everyone! How are you doing today?

First: Do notย consume the two products mentioned in the title at once. I don’t think they’d taste good together. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fun eats of the summer (oh man I have so many) :

NuGo Free Gluten Free Soy Chocolate Crunch! (I have a feeling Miss Averie might like them!)

Mmmm! The goodness of chocolate-y chocolateness! ๐Ÿ˜€ It was very hard (because I just had my braces tightened, so I couldn’t really bite in to it like I would usually do), and very chewy, and it looks fiber-licious! (**that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s effective!) ๐Ÿ˜• All in all, it was very tasty, and I would buy it again! (it was on sale at WF’s for $1.89 each. Score!)

And while synergy is gone, I would like to present you this Kombucha!

Vibrant Kombucha!

Mmm! You can taste the raspberry a lot in this one! But it’s definitely not as sizzly as synergy. Do I like it? Yes. Do I prefer more sizzle? Maybe. Would I try this again? Yes! (it’s kombucha after all. Why not try it again?) $2.99 at Whole Foods I’ll tell ya! Better deal than synegy! (which is about $3.49 a bottle! Ouch!)

Ooh, and as I was cleaning my closet, I wondered: How many veg*n shirts do I have?

So I counted them. Here they are:

and six.ย  Wait!!

Ta-da! This is the newest one from fuego. (the website for this brand is here) Michael bought it for me, and it was on sale! ($21. 80 to $13.08. Score!) It’s so cute!!!!

I had my eyes onย this for a while, and I was afraid that someone already bought it. But a week or so later, it was still there! So he bought it for me! (this is the first AR/veg*n shirt that I saw that’s not from an AR-related place. Cool!!) I love it! It’s 100% cotten, and it’sย sooooooooo comfy!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I love it! Thank you Michael!!!

Wow! I had a lot more than I thought! (I knew I had all these, but never really counted them) Do you have any type(s) of shirt(s) you collect? Do you have certain colored clothing(s)ย that you like to buy? I like clothes, but if they’re veg*n-related, I think it’s cool!

Enjoy today and like always, thaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks for coming!! ๐Ÿ™‚
