A Vegan Girl On Her Life Journey :)

Hellooo world! How are you doing today? 😉

First of all, how’s my new layout? When I was editing the comments, this layout caught my eyes. I checked it out, and boom! It just happened. (I was going to change it when I had 100 posts, but that’s not going to be any sooner!) Twenty Ten is the layout, and I think it’s pretty cute!

Second of all, thank you all for leaving a comment! It makes me really happy (and glad to blog) when I know there are people out there reading this! I extremely appriciate all of you who took your time to write a little something for me to see!

Here’s the confession for today:

Eating healthy is NOT expensive.

We had a class discussion about how eating healthy food generally cost more money. I certainly didn’t think it was true. What’s your thought? Is eating healthy expensive? Or is it totally affordable?

Speaking of food, last Friday, I got a free sample of Kashi’s Go Lean Crunch thanks to Averie’s Post.

It came in a nice, mini-size box.

And this box was covered with a coupon.

Nice! Overall, this was very crunchy, and it had a nice honey flavor to it. If you like cereal, you should give it a try! 😉

Review Alerts!

Boom! Look at THESE! I FINALLY found Heart Thrive suncakes that Michal has been talking about waaaaaaaaay too much. 😉 Discovered them at Whole Foods for the first time ever. (the near-by WFs doesn’t carry them. Boo!) 😦 But with them, I found a brownie bar from Frankly Natural Bakers.

Date: Very dry, but VERY filling!

Chocolate: More ingredients than Dates. Still good, with a hint of chocolatiness.

Size-wise, this baby is pretty big. I was surprised! 🙂

Yum! This is a really good snack if you’re really hungry, but you don’t quite want to eat a meal. 😉 We discovered this at $2.29. Is that cheap, expensive, or normal for this product? Anyone know?

Dang. This was dryyy-y. And I actually tasted grape in this baby! It was quite surprising, because it was more towards the bottom of the list. :O

And I’ve been enjoying creating chocolate cups for the last few days.

Smily face on the left, sprinkled cashews on the right.

Middle filled with Almond Butter.

A lot healthier than Reese’s pieces!

Made with Cocoa Powder + Agave + Coconut Oil.

So yeah! I am madly in love with Averie’s Vegan PB Cups! (even though mine are Choco Cups and/or AB cups!) 😉

And it’s interesting how you ARE what you eat. When I eat stuff that’s “bad”, I feel rotten. SO, I need to snap out of this habit and start eating “good” food.

Today was a pretty good start.

Yeay for plants! From the bottom left (clockwise): Combination of Burdock Root, Yam/Konjac (love!), Kelp, and Soybeans cooked in a crockpot, Brown Rice, Miso Soup with tofu, seaweed, sprouts, and a stir-fry with sprout and mushrooms.

Eating a plant -based diet really increased my awareness of what I put in my mouth. It makes me think about food and where/how it came from/to me. I feel healthier, and I need less sleep. 🙂

Also, going vegan made me realize what I’m good with and not good with. The things I’m not good with are…

  • Avocados
  • Nuts (Almonds, Cashews, Peanuts, etc.)
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Soy Yogurt
  • Chocolate Chips (actually, eating too much at once makes my skin itch real badly.)

I’m sure I’ll discover more as I live. But on the other hand, I’m good with these things:

  • Fruits (Apples and Mangos)
  • Vegetables (Spanich, Kale, Carrots, etc.)
  • Intense DDR
  • Water
  • Odwalla Superfood

I’m honestly glad that I’m finding out what’s good and what’s not. (though it sucks when you find out that it’s not good with you and it’s not cooperating with you) But then, I know how to fix the problems at this point, so it’s going to be all good. 🙂

What food does your body like? Do you know what it dislikes?

Like usual, thaaaaaaaaaaaaanks for coming! 🙂

P.S: Katie is having a Shopping Spree Giveaway!

  1. I’m not good with pasta- my body goes crazy- Maybe I have a gluten allergy

    Love the new layout! 😀

Those homemade peanut butter (almond butter?) cups looks amazing. I made some once.. and it was messy. They tasted good though!

    • Thank you!

The cups have almond butter in them, and they give it a creamier/smoother texture. I know what you mean; they may get messy, but there’s soooooooo good! 😀

  3. On the cost of eating healthy: I think it totally depends on the angle you take it at. If you’re one that barely cooks at home and has a habit of buying impulsively, eating healthy can be Very expensive. But if you cook most of your own food, keep an eye out for specials and have a little garden of goodies, it can be the same or even cheaper! I’ve found that since I ran away from the SAD diet and restaurant hopping, I spend less on groceries, but eyeing the prices of certain foods I’d like to buy, I can see how it can get expensive if you’re not careful.

On what my body likes and dislikes: I loooove bananas, and I can eat lots of them. I once at 10 in a day, no prob. But if I try to eat a couple or a few of them mashed up, it’s way too much for me. It must be because it’s “pre-chewed” XD. Although people say this is bad food combining, I find that eating fruits With nuts the most easily digestible. Nuts alone go down really hard, and lots of fruits alone can sometimes be too much for me. I tried whole wheat twice to see how my body would react, and it didn’t like it. I’m reactive to sunflower seeds and cherries too…

It’s tricky finding out what works and doesn’t work with your body because the digesting times are different and make it hard to pinpoint. Also, hidden ingredients or sprays can mislead you.

You got a good point there. But I mean if you eat “healthy” (as in raw fruits and veggies, etc.), it’s not that expensive.

Daaaang! That’s A LOT of bananas! That’s interesting how your body doesn’t like it if it’s mashed up. If you find what’s right for you, it honeslty doesn’t matter what other people say, because the one person who knows about your body is yourself. 🙂

It is tricky to find what works and what doesn’t. But that’s part of the fun! It’s always fun to explore food and see what you like (and don’t like)! 😀

  4. Oh! I forgot to mention how deadly your almond cups look…. I sooooo badly want to make myself some Reese cups! What’s the cocoa powder/ coconut oil/ agave nectar ratio you think works best?

    • sagojyou said:

      Ha ha! Thank you!

Hmm, for the ratio, I’d say (in cocoa powder: coconut oil: agave nectar order) 1:3:2. It depends on what you like (if you like dark chocolate, add more cocoa powder, if you want it sweet, add more agave, etc.) If you put even one tsp of cocoa powder, it turns pretty dark, so try and see what you like. 🙂

  5. No avocado’s??? I would die! It is very amazing how your body knows what it likes and doesn’t like! I have so many allergies, so I know what my body likes and I stay away from all I am allergic to….but I am testing nuts right now as well. I have a feeling they could be causing issues.

    These cookies look great!

I love the new layout doll 🙂

A lot of people are in love with avocados! (especially since cinco de mayo is coming up, it’s going to become a necessity for many people!) Yeah, it’s interesting how my body knows. (I’m not allergic to them, though)

We’ll just all have to see what’s good and what’s not!

  6. Hi girl, I love your new layout!

And I love that you were able to try heart thrives arent they just the yummiest?! I havent tried the chocolate one yet you beat me to it

As for what my body likes and dislikes I have loved being able to tune into my body, and listening to just what it likes. I really like bananas (of course) all fresh fruits and yummy veggies. I also have been digging brown rice and other whole grain lately… as well as pb chocolate whoopie pies! 🙂 for me its all about trying to find a balance and to work things out so in the end a little bit of the not good stuff (aka garlic!) wont upset me so much.

  7. omg i love your new layout!!!!!!! soooo much easier to read and see the pics! great job!

thanks for the linkback on the pb cubs and of course, glad you’re loving em!
and the kashi, glad my lil tips like that help people!

and eating clean does not have to be expensive. i have posted bout this before and am actually posting about it tomorrow! stay tuned!

knowing what foods dont work for you, priceless.
    have a great nite hon!

Averie, honestly, thank you for everything! You commenting (and even taking a look!) at my blog makes my day, and it brightens me up, A LOT. So thank you, and I am staying tuned for your post everyday!! 😀

  8. i don’t think eating healthy is way more expensive. Especially vegan. Because then you’re not buying meat. Maybe if your going from fast food to whole foods. But i think if you rack up my tally at WFoods and a meat-eater/processed food buyer’s receipt, mine is less.

Fun eats! I’ve made PB cups before too–good stuff!

Thanks for coming to my blog!

I agree. Good there’s someone out there who thinks alike 🙂 Meat costs so much more than veggies! :-O

PB cups are fun to make; endless possibilities! 🙂
